Publishing guidelines

These guidelines help schools and organisations prepare contributions for A Million for Nature, Tomorrow Laboratory and the conference. Review them before confirming a submission on behalf of your school.

Authority and attribution

An authorised adult submits through an account linked to the school or organisation. Public attribution uses the school, organisation and country. Describe a student’s school stage where useful instead of publishing their name.

Check rights and permissions

Check that the school may share the work and any text, photographs, illustrations, music or video it includes. Permission for private classroom use does not automatically permit publication on an open website. Check the intended audience and obtain the necessary permissions before submitting.

Review identifiable information

A person may be identifiable from their face, voice, location, clothing, file name, caption or a combination of details. Avoid unnecessary personal information. Respect children’s views about sharing their images. School approval does not replace permissions required from the people concerned or their guardians.

Prepare files with care

Prefer images of activities or work where people cannot be identified. Check the background and remove unnecessary metadata. Do not upload permission forms, class lists or confidential supporting documents. The submission confirmation records your declaration that the necessary permissions are in place.

Two steps before public publication

Actively select both required confirmation boxes. The school administrator reviews the contribution first, followed by Joournals. Submission is not a promise of publication. Reviewers may request changes or decline the contribution.

Changes and withdrawal

A changed contribution requires new confirmation and review. Approval of an earlier version does not cover new images or text. You may request withdrawal. Removal from Joournals cannot guarantee removal of copies already downloaded by others, so consider public sharing carefully in advance.
